yes, was and thought about it. Just woke up to see Life without GC is still the same and I am a day old. Now, I feel relaxed. Now, there is no need to check or wait for bulletin for the next one year or to atleast have any hope.

Hi,
I know this is forum is not the correct place to discuss this topic. But I am posting this because some members of the forum must have already faced ths issue.
I ahve a one month old newborn. We are planning to go to India for vacation end of July. I have to apply for my baby's US passport. But she has not received her SSN. The instuction says that SSN is not mandatory but IRS can fine you if you dont disclose that information. I tries to contact SSN office, IRS office and Passport Office. Each one will point to the other Agency. So not sure what what to do. Anyone who was in the same boat, please let me know whether there are any issues with applying for passport without SSN number.
Thanks

Remember, the worse the grade, the more we love 'em. And where's Jeb Bush? He'd definitely get a D-. Thanks NUSA for making it easy for the pro-immigration folks as well.

Some big compromises in the House version that dropped this morning. First, there will be $2525 in filing fees, $525 of which is due at the outset and $2000 of which is paid five years in to the ten year conditional non-immigrant period. That should presumably answer critics who complain that DREAM will add to the deficity. Also, conditional status is granted in two five year terms and the college education/military service requirements must be met in the first five year term in order to get the extension approved. Here is the new bill. HR6497

Immigration lawmakers try to pick winners and losers. The problem is that just like a broken analog clock with its hands frozen in place, the timing is mostly wrong. This brings me to one of my pet peeves. It bothers me that the immigration laws and agency regulations favor some fields of study and disfavor others. Why for example are students in the STEM subjects(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) given 27 months of "optional practical training" -- a euphemism for work permission --- while liberal arts students get only 12 months? Do Congress and the immigration agencies think we have...

Guys,
I just contributed my second contribution of $200.00(so far $400.00)
I was just thinking about it, it is still less than what I am earning in one day.
And I am sure it is less than what your consulting company makes(or takes) from you in two days(some times one day)
Think about what these guys at IV are doing for us(and ofcouse for themselves)
Please do your part by contributing. When sombody is willing to donate their time/effort for free, we should make use of it properly(no point in regretting later).
It is dissappointing to see that most of us lack motivation.
Please do your part today. Let us make it a movement.

Category classification of EB2 or EB3 is done when filing I-140. Labor does not have any such classification. It all depends on the job requirement that decides EB2/EB3 at I-140 while filing.
I second hibworker on your question.

Hi,
Im having my H1B and 140 approved with my current employer. Now I got into a situation where in I need to file a new H1B with a new employer through whom im working on a project. But once my H1B is approved, my new employer will dismiss/cancel the new H1b Filed, as they just need to show that they filed a H1B for me.
Will this be a problem for my current 140 and GC processing or my existing H1B?
Coz that Im not going to use my new H1B, I can still continue using my current I94 right!
Any issues if my new H1b gets rejectd or queried!

Can people convert LC pending in BEC to PERM? If So, how safe it is and how much time it takes totally.
Yes, and its well known. Talk to or just visit Murthy or Immigrationportal and you will find lot of discussion on this topic. In a nutshell, as long the PERM application is identical to BEC pending application you can convert to PERM. Make sure to find an attorney familiar in such type of cases.

If economy rebounds by summertime itself, it means less pressure on immigrants from anti immigrant lobby and govt. Govt will be more inclined to grant GCs to immigrants.

The Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill introduced in the House of Representatives would revamp the existing employment-based (EB) preference system in a number of important ways: 1) Recapture Currently, 140,000 persons are permitted to immigrate to the U.S. each year under the EB preference system. If less than 140,000 visa numbers are given out by the end of the governments fiscal year on September 30, the remaining numbers are essentially thrown away. As a result, in most years, 20,000 to 30,000 visa numbers are lost. The bill would change this system so that whatever EB visa numbers are remaining at...

Some paras from In Majority, Democrats Run Hill Much as GOP Did (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/17/AR2007021701352.html).
Democrats pledged to bring courtesy to the Capitol when they assumed control of Congress last month. But from the start, the new majority used its muscle to force through its agenda in the House and sideline Republicans.
And after an initial burst of lawmaking, the Democratic juggernaut has kept on rolling.
Of nine major bills passed by the House since the 110th Congress began, Republicans have been allowed to make amendments to just one, a measure directing federal research into additives to biofuels. In the arcane world of Capitol Hill, where the majority dictates which legislation comes before the House and which dies on a shelf, the ability to offer amendments from the floor is one of the minority's few tools.
Last week, the strong-arming continued during the most important debate the Congress has faced yet -- the discussion about the Iraq war. Democrats initially said they would allow Republicans to propose one alternative to the resolution denouncing a troop buildup but, days later, they thought better of it.
And yet, significant numbers of House Republicans have voted along with Democrats on the legislation passed so far -- a fact that somewhat mutes criticism about iron-fisted tactics.
In the first weeks of the new Congress, however, Democrats bypassed the usual legislative committees, refused to allow any amendments and took their agenda straight to the floor for passage. They said they needed a clear path to pass a handful of popular measures that were the basis of their successful November campaign, including expanded money for stem cell research, an increase in the federal minimum wage and implementation of recommendations of the Sept. 11 commission.
Democrats said they would impose "regular order," the rules that permit the minority to participate more widely, in short order.
But even after passing their domestic agenda, Democratic leaders have continued to marginalize Republicans, preventing them from having a voice in legislation such as a bill to withhold federal pensions from lawmakers convicted of ethics felonies and a $463 billion bill to fund the federal government for the rest of this fiscal year.
Last week's debate on the Iraq war, culminating in its passage Friday by a vote of 246 to 182, was conducted under a "closed rule," which means Republicans could not offer alternatives. "I understand what they did on their agenda," said Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho). "But to do a closed rule on something like this is a huge mistake. We're talking about war and peace. You don't play politics with war."
While they did not allow amendments on the Iraq debate, the Democrats gave every member of the chamber five minutes to speak on the resolution -- an unprecedented amount of debate on a nonbinding resolution, according to Thomas E. Mann, a scholar at Brookings Institution. He said that is more than the Republicans offered Democrats when the GOP passed a resolution last spring supporting the war in Iraq.

Hello,
I am changing my employer with whom I had a H1-B (extended beyond 6 years) and with the new employer I will be starting on EAD (which I have from my wife's GC application). I have couple of questions.
- Once I start using EAD and if I travel out of US and intend to use AP for re-entry, are there any issues travelling to European countries? I have heard there are problems getting transit visas when on AP. Is this true or is it just for particular airlines?
- Once I start using EAD, can the new employer apply for H1-B visa transfer or a new H1-B after I start using EAD or its not possible.
Thanks
